Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at michelle@cornerstonenotary.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A notary public is an official appointed by the state government to witness and certify the signing of legal documents.

I can notarize a variety of documents, including affidavits, power of attorney, wills, deeds, affidavits and more.

Notaries’ primary responsibilities involve:

  • confirming signers’ identities,
  • witnessing the signing process,
  • administering oaths,
  • and stamping their official seal and signature on documents.

This approach guarantees the legality and authenticity of your documents.

Mobile notaries operate within the bounds of specific state laws and regulations, which uphold the integrity of the notarization process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Verifying Identity

Mobile notaries verify the signer’s identity using a valid government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license or passport. This critical step helps prevent fraud and ensures that the person signing is genuinely who they claim to be.

  • Witnessing Signatures

Mobile notaries must personally witness the document’s signing, ensuring it is done willingly and free from coercion or influence.

  • Administering Oaths and Affirmations

Mobile notaries administer documents that require an oath or affirmation, ensuring that the signer fully appreciates the seriousness of their statements.

  • Maintaining a Journal

Notaries must keep a detailed log of their notarizations. This journal includes information such as the signer’s name, identification details, the type of document, and the date and time of notarization.

  • Affixing the Notary Seal and Signature

The notary’s seal and signature officially certifies the notarization and render the document legally binding.

You will need to provide a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, to be notarized.

It is recommended that you come ready with your documents with you that you may need for the notarial process (printing 2 is recommended to have a backup) However, if you have no access to a printer, I can print a document for you for an extra fee. Fees, listed here

Please note that a cancellation fee may be applied if any notarial or non-notarial act cannot be performed at no fault of the notary. This includes: the signer not being ready or willing to sign when the notary arrives, missing or unsuitable witnesses, document signer not having an acceptable valid, unexpired photo identification and/or not being legally competent in the notary's judgment of what is required under the law/or our sole interpretation of industry best practices.
